St Matthews Community Hall Environmental Improvements

The hall still has its original steel framed windows, these will be replaced with double glazed units and a double skinned reinforced insulated bottom section to reduce heat loss and make the building more secure. The roof has a shallow pitch angle incorporating the original compacted straw insulation panels. Their thermal insulation properties are terrible. It is proposed the install a false ceiling with bagged thermal insulation between the 600 x 600 tiles and the existing compacted straw panels. The new ceiling will follow the existing shallow pitch roof profile and include new LED light panels. The electric system is 30 years old and passed the recent Quinquennial safety inspection. It will need replacing in a few years time and it makes sound economic sense to rewire and simplify before the ceiling conceals the cabling.
