St Michael with Bartholomews Church, Bolton – Renovation Phase 3 : Nave Roof

Two phases of English Heritage aided repair contracts have addressed necessary repairs but only as far as funds allowed. An amount of urgent work still remains outstanding for the third and final phase. The nave roof is still in very poor order with loose, damaged and missing slates. Phase 1 investigations from scaffolding confirmed rusted nails and rotten battens. Re-slating the nave would complete the re-roofing of this church (which has already has extensive dry rot). Replacement of some pointing would complete the major external works and preserve the building for future generations.
