St Michaels and All Angels Church, Stoke Newington Common – Hall Refurbishment (2771/D)

The project aims to repair the leaking porch roof and the hall ceiling which is essential if St Michael’s is to stand any chance of being more attractive to people who might want to use the hall. The hall was constructed about 40 years ago within the west end of the church. It has a glass ceiling which means heat is not lost in the soaring roof beams of the church. This benefit, however, is offset by the fact that hall users cannot see the beams because the glass is occluded, having deteriorated with age. The result is that the space, which should be both warm and beautiful, actually feels grubby. The solution is a new polycarbonate ceiling which would retain the heat in the hall, thus keeping the carbon footprint low, while simultaneously exposing the roof beams of the church.

The Trust grant will contribute to the new porch roof.
