St Peter’s Church Bells Restoration Project

Our bells are so difficult to ring that they are now rarely heard – two are no longer rung at all. This led to our local bell ringing band folding twenty-two years ago. The bells are also too heavy for our slender medieval tower. Our challenge is to return the bells of St Peter’s to a condition where all eight can be rung safely and without difficulty. We will replace all the bell fittings, refurbish the bell chamber and frame, reduce the overall weight of our bells, and install a new ringing floor. The result we seek is a long term future for bell ringing in Newnham and a flourishing band of village bell ringers. Unless we take action, the bells will fall silent.
