St Peter’s Church Boxworth PCC

The grant will cover repairs to the roofs of both porches and the clunch window surrounds, and carry out repointing repairs on the tower.
Issues were identified in the last two Quinquennial Reviews but repairs were delayed due to Covid and many areas have continued to deteriorate. There is a leak on the south side of the church which is now urgent, while falling high level stonework may become a health and safety hazard. Deteriorating masonry also leads to more water penetration which causes damp which makes the building less welcoming. If the condition of the church deteriorates further, use of the church will decrease, whereas the PCC would like to focus on increasing usage. It may even have to close to general visitors due to the lack of safe access.
The church is Grade II* listed and is an important community asset and public space in the village. There is a public footpath through the churchyard and passing walkers visit the church.
