St Peter’s Church, Woodmancote – Bells

There are three bells in the belfry which have been run up until about 15 years ago. An inspection confirmed an earlier report that the wooden headstocks were decaying the ironwork fittings, strapping and related metal parts were in poor condition and one of the bells has a six inch crack in it. The bells themselves are of historic interest and from ‘Sussex Bells and Belfries’ we know that two of the bells date from the mid 13th Century and one from the mid 15th Century. It is our proposal to put all of the bells back into good condition including the repair of the cracked bell.
