Stabilisation of the Tower, Archbishop’s Palace in Otford

The Archbishop’s Palace in Otford was built in 1514, by William Warham (who became Archbishop of Canterbury in 1503) on the site of three earlier, medieval palaces. It predated Hampton Court Palace, and Cardinal Wolsey took some of the design ideas for his palace from Otford. The north-west Tower is on the Heritage At Risk register. ECT is being approached to contribute towards necessary repairs to the brickwork and stonework and install doors and windows in the existing openings. This will make the Tower watertight and pigeon-proof, and thus make it possible to admit more visitors to see the spectacular interior.
