Starkies Wood Regeneration & Improvement – Community Wildlife Garden and Woodland

The aim of this project to regenerate and improve a valuable environmental site in a central site in a deprived community as Wildlife Garden and Woodland. This includes re-planting trees to regenerate woodland, hedgerow and wildflowers. Wetland potential will be increased through site development works allowing more standing water around the year, its attraction for wildlife further improved by additional measures

The second aim of the project is to make a more useable and accessible green space area in Buckhaven (and Methil) for local people and visitors. Landscaping aspects of the project includes a new footpath cum cyclepath – which lies along the route of the core path network – with signage, information-interpretation boards along with two seated areas. In addition to serving as outdoor learning space for pupils from High School and Primary Schools close by, CLEAR plans regular events at Starkies Woods focusing on nature appreciation as well as voluntary maintenance of the site.
