Staunton Meend Restoration

The project is restoring the Meend to an acid grass/heathland by the removal of bracken litter and encroaching birch that built up over 40 years and annual bracken bashing. This has allowed the seed bank to regenerate. Heather, grasses and flowers are all returning.
Adequate grass is now available to allow the project to introduce a conservation grazing regime. The Meend boundaries have been repaired and now two cattle grids are needed. The project has been recognised by Natural England with an HLS agreement and by both Glos CC and Wye Valley AONB with grants. A copy of the HLS confirmation letter is attached.
