Stevenson’s Bridge Heritage Project

Local people have identified an overgrown, uninviting eyesore which hides an important piece of local history. The site is next to the starting point where Robert Stevenson launched his locomotive train The Rocket. The Rocket played an important part in transport history and there is no indication that this event took place in St Helens. The impressive curved bridge that the rocket passed under is lost due to the site being so overgrown and the path running along side is uneven and unsafe.
The environmental improvement work will include:
Regrading the site
Removing dense under growth
New paths increasing accessibility
New planting – bulbs sensory planting
