Projects / Stock Beck Restoration Scheme

Stock Beck Restoration Scheme

Stock Beck is a significant tributary of the River Ribble. It has been historically modified and polluted, causing it to fail to meet the Water Framework Directive standards. RRT plan to address these issure by fencing off and planting trees along a section of the beck to create wet woodland and improved riparian habitat that will benefit fish, otters, water voles, invertebrates, king fisher and dippers. This will aid in reducing diffuse pollution by preventing poaching of the river banks by livestock, and will also help to mitigate the effects of climate change by sequestration of carbon, and shading of the beck to reduce water temperatures. Finally by constructing a fish easement on a weir in Victiry Park, Barnoldswick, we will reconnect two fragmented sections of the Beck, and utilise the location to provide an interpretation panel that will help to engage the public and reduce littering.
