Stratosphere Chamber Restoration & Interpretation

The restoration and interpretation of the Stratosphere Chamber, constructed by Barnes Wallis in 1947 as a laboratory in which high altitude conditions could be simulated for research into high-speed flight.
This project will restore and interpret the Stratosphere Chamber. Whilst the Chamber itself is structurally sound, the following works are required:De-rusting of the interior of the Chamber and display within this space of the VC10 test fuselage that was originally tested in it.
Attention to the rolling door that closed the Chamber at one end, restoration and interpretation of the surviving key items of machinery that operated the Chamber.
Provide improved access (including modifying an industrial staircase) for visitors to the original Control Room, which requires work on the ceiling and walls, decoration and interpretation, and will include some Barnes Wallis-related archive material
Interpretation of the remains of the supersonic wind tunnel facility
