Street Section Skatepark Revival for All

Mount Hawke Youth and Community Group (MHYCG) is a skatepark based on the outskirts of Mount Hawke, Truro. A 24,000 square foot Dutch barn forms the park, which offers both indoor and outdoor riding and skating facilities a coffee shop, reception area and toilets. Internally the park offers users seven riding sections including a street course, rhythm section, mini ramp area and plaza. Externally there is a smaller course and a pump track. The building is open seven days each week and used by 13 weekly groups including BMX, skateboard, inline skating and scooter nights and mums club. Six local schools also use the building weekly for education sessions, and event nights rotate throughout the month. The facility is available for birthday parties, and five coaches offer one to one or group coaching weekly. User feedback, consultation and observation of significant changes in street skating trends have developed the need for the work. Additionally, the street section was last remodeled eight years ago and is now exceeding the usual six year cycle. The layout is dated and riding surfaces are worn, causing health and safety issues for users.
