The small Pearl Bordered Fritallary is a high priority butterfly for the Durham Biodiversity Action Plan. All the sites for this butterfly in Durham are in the Lanchester area. Black plantation has been identified as a suitable site to prepare for a local reintroduction. The major work involves tree felling to create open areas for the butterflym then the re-introduction itself.
