Suffolk White Clawed Crayfish ‘Ark’ Project

Native white-clawed crayfish are declining dramatically across the UK due to the loss of habitat and the impact of the non-native invasive American Signal crayfish. In Suffolk, the situation is critical, if no action is taken, native crayfish will be wiped out within the next 2 years.

The project is to establish an ‘Ark’ site where native white-clawed crayfish are safe from interaction with the alien species. Suitable individuals (150) will be translocated from threatened populations in Suffolk rivers.
