Sutcliffe Park – Planting a Leafy Legacy

Working in collaboration with the local community, we will plant over 40 mixed variety standard trees in Sutcliffe Park, to combat the severe decline of the existing tree stock in the much loved and used park.

Sutcliffe Park is a 16.7 ha public park featuring areas of open grassland, meadow and a large wetland area created by the Environment Agency in 2004 as a local flood alleviation scheme. With most of the park’s trees being planted in the mid 1930s, many have been lost over the years from old age or disease and through development works on the eastern side of park. The park’s trees are crucial to the aesthetics, quality and future sustainability of the park and provide an important habitat for local wildlife, including pipistrelle bats.

Keen to address the critical decline, this project has been initiated by the Friends of Sutcliffe Park and Royal Borough of Greenwich, who are keen to restore the tree legacy in the park to ensure it stays green, biodiverse and welcoming to all.
