Tanterton Playing Fields

The project is to improve drainage to the playing fields by installing a new main drain across its length and installing lateral drains at 3m spacing’s. The pitches will then be reinstated and over seeded with sports field grass seed. The playing fields are in the heart of Tanterton and provide a recreational facility for the whole community with walking routes to the housing estates, shopping precinct and school that border it. The playing fields is a large rectangular space with room for two full size sports pitches, a children’s play area, a changing pavilion and space for other facilities. A footpath runs around three sides of the site. At present only the northern half of the playing field is utilised because of flooding of the southern half of the space during periods of wet weather. In winter this part of the site is so waterlogged it is unusable and often floods the public footpath which is a popular route to school, doctor’s surgery and shopping precinct for local residents.
