Targeting Management of Key BAP Insect Species on Tees Valley Brownfield Sites

To assess the value of four brownfield sites in the lower Tees Valley for their invertebrate biodiversity.
To characterise some of the invertebrate groups of brownfield sites with particular emphasis on open mosaic slag grassland.
To develop a list of local indicator invertebrate species which will link with the delivery of the Tees Valley ‘Brownfields Habitat Action Plan (HAP)’ to assess the quality of brownfield habitat. This could also be used to inform the selection of Local Wildlife Sites.
To gain an understanding of the habitat requirements of key groups of brownfield invertebrates in the Tees Valley, which will assist site habitat management and enhancement.
To develop ecological management principles for key groups of brownfield invertebrates based on observation.
