Tavistock Museum Stage 2 – New Interpretation Room and Welcome Area

The Tavistock Museum currently occupies two rooms above the historic court gate in the centre of the town. The project (stages 1 & 2) involves extending the existing museum into the adjoining Grade II listed cottage building.

Stage 2, the subject of our landfill application, is to create a new interpretation room and ground level entrance. Provision will be made for public access to the new interpretation room and welcome area, internal circulation and linking with the existing museum rooms.

The new interpretation room will tell the story of Tavistock through displays, time lines and a short DVD presentation. Since the town stands at the eastern gateway to the ‘Cornish Mining World Heritage Site’ particular emphasis will be placed on the public buildings and model workers cottages financed by mining royalties, foundries and canal.
