Tawd Valley Park ‘Damselfly’ Wetland

To create a 0.2km2 wetland habitat within Tawd Valley Park, Skelmersdale. The Damselfly wetland will contain a reedbed system which will filter run off from roads and pathways and improve water quality in the River Tawd. This will have positive knock on effects on invertebrate and fish populations within the river, as well as reduce the impact of pollution events on the main river. It will provide valuable habitat for specialist species of wetland birds, invertebrates and amphibians. From a visitor perspective, this wetland creates a great spot for birdwatching, pond dipping and environmental education. Interpretation panels will explain the water cleansing properties of the habitat.
