Teddington and Alstone Village Hall Re-Roofing and Solar Project, Teddington Village Hall, Tewkesbury, Glos

This is a project to re-roof and add solar panels to Teddington Village Hall.

The aim is to re-cover the 1930’s/70’s building roof due to there being no roofing felt on the original part of the building and sky being visible where tiles have become warped through age. At the same time install a solar energy system to include twelve horizontal photovoltaic panels, inverter and battery and make ready for the implementation of an air-to-air internal heating system.

The village hall is the only community establishment in the parish and needs to be protected and maintained for future residents.

Due to ever-increasing cost of running the hall, the project aims to create a more sustainable facility, the only social centre in the remote Parish (which includes Teddington, Bengrove, Alstone, and outlying areas on the B4077 and A435). Firstly, by providing the much needed maintenance works to the roof along with the prescribed insulation, also to take the opportunity to install a solar energy system to help reduce energy usage. The large oil-filled radiators currently installed are a massive drain on electricity, so much so, that their usage was reduced for 23/24 winter months by closely monitoring/using the frost protection facility. However, because of the age and construction of the building this has a detrimental effect on the building so there is a fine balance. It is felt that a further increase in rental fees will have an adverse effect on those who rent the premises and rely on it for clubs, classes, meetings etc.
