Telegraph Lane Ecological Gardens, Wallasey - Community Hub & Garden Improvements (008407)

The project is a community-led permaculture project where people and nature grow side by side. On a four-acre permaculture site, volunteers of all backgrounds—many neurodiverse, disabled, LGBTQ+, and from culturally diverse communities—come together to care for the land and each other in meaningful, hands-on ways.

Through shared gardening, creative making, skill-sharing, quiet reflective spaces, and our unique attendance-based democratic model, participants actively shape decisions and design. This builds trust, agency, and a genuine sense that every voice counts. As the land is restored, people feel growing confidence, belonging, well-being, purpose, and connection. The project demonstrates how caring for soil, ecosystems, and relationships can unlock profound personal transformation, change behaviour and initiate mutual aid and education. This project hopes to nurture hope for a fairer, kinder, greener future for all.

Creating a fully inclusive, accessible community space where people of all ages abilities, and backgrounds can garden, learn and connect with nature safely and comfortably.
Support wellbeing and resilience by offering a peaceful, creative, land-based environment that reduces isolation and encourages positive mental and physical health and connection to nature.
Strengthen community action through shared decision-making, collaborative projects, and hands-on stewardship of the site.
Reduce carbon impact by improving insulation, installing solar power, and modelling sustainable, off-grid living.

Enhance biodiversity and natural habitats through expanded planting areas, protected microclimates, and ecological land management.

Provide opportunities for skills, learning, and confidence-building, especially for neurodiverse people, disabled people, LGBTQ+ individuals, and those who may feel excluded from mainstream environmental spaces.
Demonstrate a community-led model of caring for land and people.
