The Byker Centre Community Garden

The project will transform the neglected grounds of a grade 2 listed church and a community centre into an exciting, accessible, flexible open space for community leisure activities, events, training and personal development. The site is the subject of a £450k community spaces regional flagship bid, and is within the world famous Byker estate designed by Ralph Erskine in the 1970’s, now grade 2* listed and on UNESCO’s list of outstanding 20th century buildings. The LCF monies would be applied in the establishment of a horticultural project on the site which would offer employment, training and volunteering opportunities.
