The Church of St Mary Childwick Green, St Albans – Toilet Provision (006462)

St Mary’s is a Grade-Two listed church built in 1867 by famous Victorian architect George Gilbert Scott. Adjoining the church is the schoolroom, a hall that serves as a vital hub for community activity throughout the week.

This application plans for a single-storey infill extension to house an accessible toilet, baby-change facilities and lobby area. Presently there is only a cramped external toilet, which is not wheelchair accessible and does not have baby-change facilities. Access is difficult in the dark and it has no heating. As a result the church and hall are unusable for many, including those most in need of the opportunity to meet with others. This project will solve these problems, reusing the site of the old boiler house.
