The Falkirk Wheel, Falkirk – Water Play Area Phase 2 (50087/D)

The project aim is to construct a new water-based amenity with timber viewing deck to provide year-round outdoor play. The 1000m2 site will be cleared. Two pools and a canal will be created and connected through a water recirculation system to cleanse and aerate the water. The 400m2 larger pool will be 350mm deep; the smaller pool 150mm deep. A canal will run north to south and connect the boating pool through a series of model canal locks and lift mechanism, enabling children to manoeuvre model canal boats through the Crinan, Caledonian, Union, Forth and Clyde and Monkland Canals. The pools are constructed of in situ concrete with natural stone edging and steps. Incorporated within the timber deck are a series of interactive water cannons. Chunky steps will be constructed around the large pool. A pedestrian causeway will run between the two pools. A railing will be erected around the perimeter of the pool.

The Trust will contribute towards the play area (phase 2).
