Projects / The Forth Lobster Hatchery

The Forth Lobster Hatchery

We wish to set up a lobster hatchery in North Berwick, which will allow dwindling lobster stocks to be replenished from eggs taken from hen lobsters. The eggs will be hatched under controlled conditions and released back into the estuary after around six weeks growth. At this stage of development the lobsters will bury themselves in the seabed and they will thus be protected from predators. The project will be set up to maximise the research and education opportunities for study of the lobsters and their habitats.
