The Ledward Centre, Brighton – Community Centre Creation (007520)

An LGBTQ+ Community Centre in Central Brighton. Our community was already disproportionately affected around several issues, including social isolation, loneliness, stigma, emotional, physical and mental wellbeing, poverty and deprivation, and COVID has exacerbated these issues. The centre is situated in a former retail unit of 7,000 sq.ft situated over 2 floors, and is fully accessible. We will create the physical spaces (a cafeteria (50 capacity), a cinema/public meeting room (70 capacity), two radio studios to reach out beyond the centre, multi functional rooms to provide offices, classrooms, therapy rooms, counselling rooms, a club room for younger members, and an art gallery/exhibition centre. These spaces, will provide the ability to support many types of interaction: meet up groups, supper clubs, events, classes, lectures, public meetings and some space for provision of services by LGBTQ+ service providers.
