The Montgomery Canal Restoration – School House Bridge

This project is to rebuild a demolished bridge near Crickheath over the 200- year-old Montgomery Canal now being restored. After the Canal became derelict, a bridge was knocked down and an earth causeway built, blocking the Canal. Rebuilding this bridge will is key to the Canal’s restoration so that boats can once again use it (benefitting the local economy) and the public can enjoy the restored Canal. The new bridge arch design includes provision for a towpath which will mean that pedestrians would no longer have to cross the road. The design includes steps down to the towpath. It will lead to improvements in public access to the towpath and to its quality.
