The Nelson Foster Memorial Restoration Project, Gloucester City Council

This is a project to restore a monument in Sydenham Garden, a Gloucester park. The Nelson Foster memorial is beautiful freestanding monument set in the middle of a small public park in Gloucester. Nelson Foster was a prominent local merchant and philanthropist who was born in 1840 and died in 1901. He was so well respected that a public memorial was raised to him in 1930. Following road widening works the monument was moved from its original location in Southgate Street to its current location in Sydenham Garden. The monument is now in need of repair and maintenance work, including the replacement of scroll work, cleaning of graffiti, and adding of a shelter coat.
