Projects / The Paper Mill Garden

The Paper Mill Garden

The aim is to create a community garden which will be used to interpret the history of the Moses Gate Paper Mill, which employed over 500 people from the local community until the middle of the last century. The community garden will act as a focal point for visitors and groups to enjoy a safe area for pond dipping, quiet reflection or investigation into different uses of plants. The garden is based around the original goit for the paper mill, which forms the pond, the original wall can still be seen. There is a woodland area and beds will be established with plants which will assist with paper making and dyeing events. The existing hedge will be bolstered with new plants to improve diversity and wildlife value.
