The Past is Speaking to Us with Once Upon A Leaf Projects

The restoration of gravestones is necessary because 1.left laid down people think that the stones have been vandalised and more damage may occur. 2, to preserve the historic value of the stones to the community. 3.The preservation of the stones will be a lasting tribute and a focal point of remembrance. Tree trail will consist of an information board where the walk will start from to be put in the old section of the cemetery. It will be a welcome to the walk which will have the QR codes so the children can use to guide the walk. The walk is called 'Once Upon a Tree and follows the journey of a leaf on the tree to our leaf keep which is being made by the students of Middlesbrough and Redcar Colleges construction students. The children will help us with collecting the leaves to go into the keep a cycle of life death and rebirth as the leaf mould will go onto the beds and borders in the cemetery. We are linking the natural history with the history of the headstones. Maintaining & restoration of gravestones is not the responsibility of borough councils. These stones for refurbishing & repairing are of historical importance and are over 100 years old. The group work in partnership with Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council and they are fully aware of, and are in agreement to restoration.
