The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice – Ground Consolidation Works

Consolidation of old mine workings under a site proposed for the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice. The proposed area where the Hospice is to be built in the Bellahouston area of Glasgow is known to have been subject to coal mining from a very early date, pre-dating the requirement in 1872 to record workings, and neither the present owner, or the Coal Authority have any records as to the extent of the workings or who undertook them. As part of the pre-contract development works for the new Hospice, the consulting engineers were commissioned to prepare a development appraisal which analysed existing records and invasive investigative information obtained from trial pits and bore holes on site and provided recommendations as to the development of the site. These proposed works form part of their recommendations for the development of this site.
