Projects / The Refurbishment of Chelmers Village Hall

The Refurbishment of Chelmers Village Hall

In 2011 the custodial trustees, Springfield Parish Council, took over the day to day management of the building to prevent closure. Urgent repairs and health and safety requirements have been introduced along with a maintenance programme for the building. In 2011 a new flat roof and skylights were installed, thanks to a grant from the Big Society Fund, and in 2012 the kitchen was refurbished by Chelmer Housing Partnership. The next stage is refurbishment of the main hall flooring, entrance to the building and bar area which has not seen any upgrading since the hall was opened in 1980. Cleaning and repairs are undertaken but the age of the fabric now makes this exceptionally difficult.
