The River Arrow Project

The River Arrow rises on the Eastern slope of Gwaunceste Hill and flows initially in a generally north easterly direction towards Kington. In its upper reaches it is joined by several tributaries: the Glasnant, Cwmilla, Gladestry and the Gilwern, or Back Brook. From an ecological perspective the catchment faces a number of problems including barriers to fish migration, habitat degradation from overgrazing, farm diffuse pollution and soil loss and resultant high sediment loading into the watercourses. This project will take a number of key steps to restore the Arrow and its catchment including fish passages at Llanpica Weir and at Glasnant and habitat restoration works at Gilwern and Back Brook.
