The Triangle Garden, London - New Community Garden Landscaping (008362)

The project will be a community co-creation of Global Generation’s new permanent ecologically-rich garden on a brownfield site in Islington, called the Triangle. This is former industrial land bordering the Caledonian ward, a residential area with very limited access to greenspace. We have been co-creating gardens in King’s Cross since 2009, always on ‘meanwhile’ spaces – the Triangle will be the applicants first permanent garden, where they have the benefit of a 999 year lease.

Other components on site – a classroom, kitchen and office – have already been funded and are in the final stages of completion. The remaining project – and the subject of this application – is the hard and soft landscaping and planting of the garden, comprising: the creation of a mosaic of new habitats, and a new permaculture food growing area, with polycultures, perennials, shrubs and edibles.

The garden will be co-created, over one year, through a programme of 30 community workshops involving 300 local residents." "“Creating a new garden is important to me because the Global Generation’s gardens are places of encounter … with the community, with other species, and with ourselves”.
Consultation response, Story Garden participant

The aims of the project are to:-

•provide the local community with an opportunity to co-create a new green space in their area

•provide a new space where people can come together, socialise and reconnect with nature and each other.

•leave a lasting legacy for generations to come

•Improve local biodiversity through permaculture approaches to growing and regenerative horticulture practices

The project site will be fully open and accessible to the general public.

These aims reflect the results of the consultation we carried out in 2024, which showed that local people wanted: a space that brings people together; a space for people to learn to garden, to see nature and to learn new skills.
