The Whitaker, Rossendale – Community Classroom

They are in the middle of a huge capital project, creating a new building to join a stable block to the existing space. Delays around covid & new restrictions means when they do open, there’ll be a greater need to increase sustainability and ensure a safe extended education and events offer for all.
This project is to convert a derelict piece of wasteland into a community outdoor classroom, with toilet facilities and storage, ensuring that their café space can be used exclusively for income generation, and this new space can be used for education, outreach, and community events.
Without a community space, they will not be able to use the café exclusively as a café. Due to Covid they expect visitor numbers to be lower, meaning less income, so they need to create a range of activities to draw in people, to a new, larger, safer space, allowing both spaces to run simultaneously.
