Thongsbridge Outdoor Play

This project will create a wild outdoor play area suitable for bushcraft type activities and for outdoor cooking. The site is at a pivot point on the river and has an informal connection downstream to the camp site.

The site will be open to all age groups, and will be used on both a formal basis for outdoor classroom based learning during the school day and during school holiday time and on an informal basis during the evenings and weekends.

Volunteers will assist with this work in the planting of the coppice woodland edge areas. The introduction of hard and soft fruits will provide a harvest and the coppice trees will provide materials for den making, building and whittling. Ongoing clearance of the woodland understorey species such as cherry laurel will help to rejuvenate the natural Priority Habitat [Oak woodland] and an ongoing programme of invasive species treatment led by the River Steward and supported by volunteers will support the long term biodiversity of species on this site.
