Three Hagges Habitat Enhancement

The Threee Hagges Woodmeadow (THWm) is Plantlife’s latest Nature Reserve. This is a capital project to manage THWm and address immediate threats. Deer/rabbits are a threat to THWm as they damage young plants and trees, the fence is currently in disrepair. A new fence will protect the site and improve biodiversity, increasing the wildflower species, and habitat for various species. The South Pond meadow is species-poor and dominated by thistle, nettle and docks. Conservation grazing by cattle would improve the wildflower habitat, to do this fencing and troughs are needed and dense areas need clearing with a a profihopper which we will hire. We will offer brushcutter and first aid training to volunteers so they can safely use our equipment to manage the site. Funding will also support the updating of interpretation and signage to enhance and cultivate the visitor experience. Woodmeadows can be found throughout the UK, they are a relatively new concept and THWm acts as a flagship site.
