Thurrock Stepping Stones

Thurrock Stepping Stones aims to create or enhance brownfield habitat for nationally rare and threatened invertebrates. Thurrock brownfields support nationally important populations of brownfield invertebrates due to the unique climate, geology and industrial history. The project aims to safeguard the future of these unique invertebrate populations and engage the local community to raise awareness and enjoyment of their special local wildlife. The project will focus on Thurrock Thameside Nature Park and Chafford Gorge Nature Park.

This 3-year project will restore and create stepping stones of wildlife-rich brownfield habitat by partnership working with the Essex Wildlife Trust and:
* Creating 16 hectares of brownfield habitat and resources for brownfield species.
* Enhancing 98 hectares of brownfield habitat and wildflower meadows through improved management.
* Influencing the restoration of 292 hectares of landfill.
