Titchmarsh: A Room with a View

Titchmarsh is a nationally important wetland nature reserve notable for its birds, particularly wildfowl and waders. It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), part of the Upper Nene Valley Gravel Pits Special Protection Area (SPA), and lies within the Nene Valley Nature Improvement Area (NIA). Natural England has identified the whole SPA as ‘at risk’ from increasing levels of recreation disturbance, but a recent access study for the area states that countering this must balance the importance of access to the countryside for the future of both conservation and public wellbeing. This project will follow the recommendations of this study to give safer, more inclusive public access to Titchmarsh, and improve the wildlife spectacle for visitors, while minimising the disturbance to and impact on the site’s delicate, valuable habitats.
