Tottington St. John’s Cricket Club, Bury – Access to club and nature reserve (006821)

The Kirklees Valley Trail provides a direct access link to Crompton Meadows which is the home of Tottington St. John’s Cricket Club. The trail became popular with walkers, joggers, cyclists and horse riders over 30 years ago after the Holcombe Brook to Bury train line closed and since then it has been developed into a popular bridle path. At the same time some steps were created from the path down the embankment on the cricket ground to provide access not only to Crompton Meadows but also to link it to other paths that now create the Kirklees Valley Nature Reserve.
The bridle path now forms part of the National Cycle Route 6 and over 37,000 cyclists use it every year.
The project is to replace these steps and also provide a ramp for use by prams and wheelchair users so that everyone can continue to access the cricket ground and the whole Nature Reserve.
