Tracks of the Ironmasters – Footbridge repairs in Cumbria

We are seeking funding towards the cost of making urgent repairs to a timber footbridge, near to Seaton in Cumbria, which carries a public footpath over the popular National Cycle Network route 71 as it follows the path of the Cleator and Workington Junction Railway.

The condition of the footbridge is deteriorating, and remedial work is required as a matter of urgency in order to keep the public footpath safe and open, whilst ensuring the safety of walkers and cyclists on NCN 71 cycle path.

As a bridge that both crosses the NCN, and carries a public right-of-way, it is vital that we urgently carry out remedial work on the structure, works will involve:

– Repairs to the base beam of the northern supporting trestle
– Installation of perforated drain pipes behind the base beams of both supporting trestles
– Removal and replacement of deck boards and parapets and outrigger braces
– Replacement of damaged sections of timber post and rail lead-in fencing
