Trees for Gateshead: Woodland creation in Blaydon-on-Tyne

We will plant 8,000 new trees on the 5ha site just North of the landfill operation to link existing areas of woodland in the borough of Gateshead in the upcoming tree planting season. The site has limited formal functions and would benefit greatly from planting. Planting out the site has been discussed with local councillors who are all very supportive. The project delivery method will be a partnership involving Gateshead Countryside Volunteer Rangers, Gateshead Council and also local communities, residents and young people. Gateshead Countryside Volunteer Rangers currently has approximately 120 members and works to conserve the natural environment, landscape, archaeological or historical heritage, public rights of way and access to open countryside. These volunteers will take part in practical tasks to plant, establish and help maintain new trees in the project sites, leading the planting alongside local residents and schoolchildren wherever possible.
