Projects / Trewint Gateway

Trewint Gateway

The aim of the project is to improve access to the River Wandle, the Wandle trail and wider Regional park by creating an improved Wandle Gateway area at Trewint Street. This will include:
1. Redesign of infrastructure, e.g. paving layout and finish to improve access, safety and wayfinding;
2. Adaptations to existing infrastructure, e.g. painting of lamp columns, to support wayfinding;
3. Low cost creative graphic interventions to support wayfinding and interpretation of river processes (e.g. work to create fish passes over the weir) and industrial heritage; and
4. Improvements to the riverside vegetation and the inclusion of new green infrastructure in the adjacent streetscene (e.g. a stormwater tree trench and small roadside rain garden in Trewint St). These improvements will improve biodiversity and visual amenity, and support a more sustainable approach to managing surface water run-off.
