Tummel Shingle Islands(Non-Native Invasives) Project

The Tummel Shingle Islands represents one of the rarest habitats in the UK and is an area of Special Scientic Interest.
Over 380 plants have been recorded on the reserve. In addition to plants the area is the habitat for priority species such as the Common Tern, Mew Gull, Ringed Plover and Oystercatcher. The Common Rock Rose present on the islands also hosts the Northern Brown Argus butterfly.
The project is for the removal non-native Japanese Knotweed and Himalyan Balsam this will prevent the loss of the rich ecosystem which is currently under threat by these inavasive plants.
