Ughill Farm – Project 1

Ughill Farm is a 345 acre low grade, marginal farmland on the western edge of Sheffield. It is an
important site for curlew, golden plover, lapwing and other nationally threatened wading birds
that come to our moors each spring to breed.
The farm also includes a small area of the internationally important Eastern Moors Site of
Special Scientific Interest and lies within the Peak District National Park.
A purchase offer was made possible with the support of the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, who provided temporary funding that enabled the Trust to acquire the farm in late 2022.
Ughill Farm offers huge potential as a place to investigate and demonstrate how we can
effectively blend farming principles with nature recovery.
The purchase of the farm cost £1.2m, and we are now embarking on an ambitious plan to
fundraise the remaining £940k (to repay the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation), in order to take full
ownership and secure Ughill Farm for the future.
