Ughill Farm – Wetland Creation (2)

Works to be completed:

– Investigate and block failing land drains to accelerate natural wetland formation.
– Conduct exploratory digs and blocking work with a skilled digger driver under the guidance of a Nature Recovery Manager.
– Monitor the wetland’s development and carry out small excavation works as needed.
– Plant wetland species to enhance natural regeneration.

Overarching aims of the works:

– Support the creation of a self-sustaining wet-woodland and natural wetland habitat.
– Improve water retention and reduce flooding by restoring natural drainage patterns.
– Contribute to the pilot for the emerging ‘Wet-Woodland Carbon Code’.
– Enhance biodiversity by providing habitat for wetland species and improving breeding success for ground-nesting birds.

Value to the community and/or environment:

– Creates a high-value wetland habitat that supports diverse wildlife.
– Reduces flood risks by improving natural flood management.
– Promotes sustainable land management by repurposing materials and enhancing ecosystem resilience.
