Ulverston Canal – Treasured Space

We believe that people everywhere and of every age need places to treasure. Whether its a place to kick a football about, a place to relax, or a place to have fun. Not everyone is getting the benefit of good outside space. some people are missing out and some communities just don’t have any green space to treasure. We are running a campaign to encourage more people to get involved with supporting and improving local treasured spaces. Ulverston Canal is in South Lakeland, Cumbria. It is estimated that 30,000 people access the canal each year. Itl is the UK’s shortest and deepest canal with many interesting historical and cultural features. Unfortunately, has not attracted the respect it deserves. This funding would be spent on creating an improved seating and park area and better interpretation to welcome people to Canal Foot. Ulverston Canal has an extremely active Friends of Group who are determined to ensure the canal is maintained, its stories told and habitats protected.
