Unicorn Brown Roof – Make Room for Black Redstarts

The creation of a Brown Roof on the Unicorn Co-operative grocery store (Manchester) with the aim of recreating a brown field habitat, a feeding (and possibly breeding) area for the Black Redstart.

Part of the roof will be laid with sedum mat, the majority will be covered with aggregate to encourage ruderal colonisation, there will also be a small wetland area created. These should provide optimum conditons for invertebrates, the ideal foraging habitat of the Black Redstart.
