Uniting Cley & Salthouse Marshes

Norfolk Wildlife Trust is in the process of purchasing land which conjoining two existing NWT reserves, Cley and Salthouse Marshes. The land lies on a stretch of coast which is considered one of Europe’s finest complexes of low lying, unspoiled sand dune, shingle ridge, salt marsh, reedbed and freshwater marsh mosaic with associated saline lagoon. This is the only major area of land in an 8km stretch of North Norfolk Coast that is not under conservation management and it is in need of extensive restoration to maintain the continuity of this stretch of designated Heritage Coast. The project aims to restore the habitats and connect the habitat management with the neighbouring reserves, improve visitor access, site interpretation and the facilities for visitors to enjoy the combined reserves.
